You'll land at Douala International Airport and get transferred to your hotel in the Bonanjo district. Once you've settled in and freshened up, there's time to relax or take a short walk around Bonanjo Park or toward the museum and harbor if you feel like stretching your legs. Dinner happens at your hotel where the menu includes both Cameroonian and international dishes.
After breakfast, you'll drive from Douala to Yaoundé throughout most of the day. The landscape gradually shifts from coastal urban areas to greener, hilly terrain as you travel inland. There are scheduled stops for lunch (either at a roadside restaurant or a picnic) and breaks to get out and move around. You'll arrive in Yaoundé in the afternoon, check into your hotel, and do a short walk or orientation drive to see the main administrative buildings and the city's characteristic hills. The hotel serves dinner.
You'll leave Yaoundé after breakfast and head east toward Bertoua or Batouri depending on where you're staying. The drive takes you through villages, plantations, forest zones, and rural markets with a lunch stop at either a local restaurant or from a prepared picnic. Along the way, you'll see motorbike taxis, fruit stands, cassava stalls, and traditional earthen homes. You'll arrive in Bertoua or Batouri by late afternoon or evening and settle in for dinner and rest.
After breakfast, you continue east toward Yokadouma, the main regional hub before heading to the southeastern forests. As you go further, things get more remote, heavily forested, and wild with some rough road sections. Lunch happens en route. After Yokadouma, you'll continue to Mambele near Lobéké National Park's entrance, arriving in the late afternoon. You'll settle into a simple camp or guest house used by conservation teams, have dinner on site, and get a briefing with your local guides, cook, and porters who'll accompany you into the forest.
You'll have an early breakfast, then leave Mambele for the interior of Lobéké National Park. Part of the journey is by 4x4 and the rest on foot along forest trails leading to one of the bais (natural clearings) and your camp area. Walking through the dense rainforest with experienced guides and porters, you'll hear bird calls, monkey cries, and insect sounds. Lunch is either a picnic or a hot meal the camp cook prepares. At the bai sector, you'll settle into a simple forest camp, then head to an observation platform overlooking the clearing where forest wildlife congregates. You return to camp for dinner and spend the night surrounded by forest sounds.
This day focuses entirely on wildlife viewing and forest immersion in Lobéké. After breakfast, you walk to the bai and observation tower where you'll spend several hours watching forest elephants, antelopes, forest buffalo, monkeys, and various birds drawn to the mineral-rich marshes. Your guides explain animal tracks, behavior, and conservation work while quiet observation increases your chances of seeing activity. Lunch is at camp or as a picnic. You return to the lookout in the afternoon for sunset wildlife activity. Dinner and another night in the forest camp follow.
After a final forest breakfast, you break camp and retrace your steps along the trail for one last experience in this environment. Your vehicle meets you and you return to Mambele to get any items left at base camp, then start the long westward drive. Lunch is at a simple restaurant or from a packed meal with occasional stops to rest or take photos. You'll arrive in Bertoua or Batouri by early evening, check in, take a hot shower, have dinner, and sleep in a comfortable bed after several forest nights.
You'll depart for Yaoundé after breakfast. The drive gradually shifts from isolated forest regions to more populated central areas with views of plantations, villages, and roadside markets. Lunch happens en route. You arrive in Yaoundé in the afternoon and return to your hotel to shower, use the pool, or relax after several demanding days. Dinner is at the hotel.
Depending on your flight time, you'll have a final breakfast at the hotel and free time to pack, rest, or grab last-minute souvenirs. When it's time to go, your driver takes you to Yaoundé-Nsimalen International Airport for check-in and security. You leave Cameroon with memories of Douala, the long eastern roads, and your time immersed in Lobéké's forests.
